This song was inspired by Pablo Picasso's 1937 work "Guernica" which was in turn inspired by the Nazis' aerial bombing of the Basque town of Gernika. The lyrics are from the point of view of an inhabitant of the town who experiences the chaos of the bombing first-hand.
